Review How many of the moms out there cringe at the idea of listening to kids music? Believe it or not, I have discovered a kids cd that really doesn't annoy me to listen to. In fact, I really like it. My whole family does too! (Even my husband.) I was utterly shocked. Award winner, Charlie Hope's third release, Songs, Stories, and Friends: Let's Go Play! offers a fun, family friendly sound that is easy on the ears for parents and kids alike. As the title indicates, there are a variety of songs and stories. It is full of pleasant surprises. Her catchy songs make the perfect summer soundtrack for your family adventures. Whether you are on a road trip, having a play date or just listening to music around the house, this music will compliment the occasion and provide a cheery and light atmosphere. If I were to try to describe it, Charlie's voice is reminiscent of a combination of Ingrid Michaelson and the gal from Sixpence None the Richer. Some of our favorite songs on the album are "Best Friends", "Welcome Song" and "One That I Love". Of course there are a few classic kids songs included like "Wheels on the Bus" and "Ants Go Marching", but really, they are done in a way that doesn't make me feel insane. That is hard for me to say about most kids music. After listening through this cd several times we always seem to like it a little bit more. The kids even request their favorite songs. Charlie's voice is lovely and welcoming. I especially like her original songs. They sound a bit like a cheerier Cranberries (do you remember them?) musically. The first song, Welcome Song, is dreamy and catchy. I myself am pretty sick of Wheels on the Bus, but this version is lively and original and inviting for kids. Other favorite songs include Best Friends, One That I Love, Kite, Little Bird, and Hot Air Balloon. So many to name. The stories and lyrics throughout the CD keep kids interested and invite creative play and movement. We dance around the kitchen frequently, and it is hard not to sing along. It is also sweet that Charlie's mom is featured as a story teller on The Bear Family. I also love that the CD is made with certified green components.
